Hue is not only famous for the poetic Huong River and Truong Tien Bridge, but it is also a place that preserves historical marks of hundreds of years, including Quoc Hoc Hue. If you are planning to travel to Hue, do not miss the opportunity to visit the school associated with the childhood of President Ho Chi Minh as well as admire the ancient beauty mixed with modernity here. In the following article, let’s explore more about this famous school with NVK Travel.
Quoc Hoc Hue is one of the three schools established by the French in Trung Ky
Commonly referred to as Quoc Hoc Hue or Quoc Hoc, Quoc Hoc High School was established on October 23, 1896, under the directive of King Thanh Thai. Recently, the school was named Phap tu Quoc hoc Duong with the primary level specializing in teaching the French language, alongside Vietnamese and Confucian scripts.
Quoc Hoc Hue has undergone several name changes from Quoc hoc School (1896 - 1936), Khai Dinh Secondary School (1936 - 1954), and Ngo Dinh Diem Secondary School (1955 - 1956). In 1956, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of its establishment, this school was renamed back to Quoc Hoc. Along with Quoc Hoc Quy Nhon and Quoc Hoc Vinh, this is one of the three Quoc Hoc schools that the French established in Trung Ky to train civil servants for the Nam Trieu Protectorate government.

The school has gone through many decades
With a history of 121 years of establishment and operation to date, Quoc Hoc Hue is one of the third oldest schools in Vietnam. Since its construction, the school was designed in the old style with thatched houses and earthen walls. After being renovated and upgraded, the contemporary French architectural style of the 20th century was chosen. As a result, the school carries a distinctly European ancient charm typical of Hue. If you are planning to visit Hue, you cannot miss this attraction for a meaningful and complete trip.

Quoc Hoc Hue always welcomes visitors at any time
Quoc Hoc Hue is located at 12 Le Loi Street, Hue City. This is a famous attraction for its hospitality; if you intend to come here, you can enter without any cost.
All three grade levels study in the morning, while the afternoon is reserved for specialized classes and physical education. Therefore, the best time to visit the school will be in the afternoons. On Sundays, visitors can drop by at any time.
Quick ways to get to Quoc Hoc Hue
To get to Quoc Hoc Hue, visitors just need to walk along Le Loi Street for a while to easily spot the school. The school has a striking red brick architecture. Along this route, there is also 3-2 Park, the most beautiful park in the ancient capital where you can stop to check in and take memorable photos. Additionally, the school is opposite the War Memorial Monument (Bia Quoc Hoc).

Since its construction, Quoc Hoc Hue has retained its beauty. Right in the middle of the entrance path to the school is a bronze statue of President Ho Chi Minh, a notable figure who studied here.
The campus of the school is very spacious, allowing you to stroll and admire every nook and cranny. The buildings with pink-red paint stand out among the green trees and lush grass, creating a very harmonious color space. The rows of Quoc Hoc buildings still retain their French architectural style. Only three new buildings have been constructed in recent years to serve chemistry, laboratory subjects, and 10th-grade students. However, these buildings are still built in the old style mixed with a bit of modernity, so the overall appearance has not changed much.
The romantic ancient beauty at Quoc Hoc Hue
Hue only has two distinct seasons of rain and sunshine. However, when visiting Quoc Hoc Hue, visitors will feel the four seasons more clearly than anywhere else, each season having its own unique colors.
Autumn at Quoc Hoc Hue usually occurs in August, when students start school. The atmosphere during this season is cooler than the hot summer days. At this time, the leaves of the phong huong tree (the tree after) have also turned yellow. Within a week, this type of tree will bloom brilliantly in yellow, and the green grass will be filled with piles of dry leaves, creating a distinctly European autumn scene.
The end of the year to the beginning of the new year, the schoolyard is always damp and covered with fallen leaves due to heavy, persistent rains. The trees shed all their leaves, leaving behind a scene that is melancholic yet picturesque.

The most characteristic flower at Quoc Hoc Hue is the cherry blossom, planted in two parallel rows with the two main classroom blocks of the school. Every Tet, they bloom in unison, with delicate petals falling slowly, creating a romantic and poetic scene.
The end of the school year also marks the blooming of the flamboyant flowers, painting the schoolyard in bright red, signaling the arrival of summer. The bright red of the school is further accentuated by the red of the flamboyant flowers.

After many decades, Quoc Hoc Hue still carries a dignified beauty, a witness to history through the years of the nation, while also embodying the gentle, elegant beauty of the people in this land of Phu Xuan. With the changes of life, the school has taken on the youthful, dynamic appearance of ambitious young generations. Although Quoc Hoc Hue has undergone a "transformation," it still retains its inherent essence.
A place that preserves many memories of generations of students
Here, just pick up the camera and you will instantly have beautiful photos. After many graduating generations, everyone must visit once when they have the chance to fulfill their love for this beloved school.
