Around the end of the resistance war during King Quang Trung's reign, after defeating the invading northern troops, he placed a huge drum at the peak of Lung Cu. Every hour, the King ordered the soldiers to beat the drum three times, echoing across the border to assert our nation's sovereignty. Later, whenever something happened in the border area, that drum sound would once again resonate to summon the patriotic hearts. Lung Cu Flagpole is located in the border area between our country and China. It was built during the reign of King Ly Thuong Kiet using cedar wood. By the French colonial period in 1887, the flagpole was rebuilt to ensure its sturdiness. Subsequently, in the years 1992, 2000, and 2002, the flagpole continued to be restored. Specifically, in 2002, the flagpole was rebuilt to a height of 20m, with a hexagonal base and pedestal. At the foot of the flagpole are 6 reliefs with intricate bronze drum patterns.
On March 8, 2010, to celebrate the "Thousand Years of Thang Long", the People's Committee of Dong Van district initiated the restoration. To this day, the flagpole is still being preserved very carefully. The task of protecting the flag is also assigned to the Lung Cu Border Guard Station, located about 0.5km from the flagpole.
