The pagoda has been renovated and built more spaciously
According to the accounts of the elderly in the local area and historical records, La Han Pagoda was built in 1952 under the management of the Chinese from Chaozhou. Initially, it was just a simple thatched house made of wooden walls to worship the Buddhas, prominently featuring the images of the 18 Arhats. Therefore, over time, the pagoda was often referred to by locals according to the Buddha statues, leading to its current name.
In 1956, the pagoda was heavily damaged by a storm. After that, local residents contributed to rebuild the pagoda using wood and bricks. By 1990, the pagoda was completed, becoming much more spacious and solid thanks to the efforts of Buddhists and people from all over. Currently, the pagoda is designed with a ground floor, an upper floor, and a large courtyard.
From Ho Chi Minh City, travelers need to move to Soc Trang to visit La Han Pagoda. You can choose different means of transportation such as personal cars, buses, or motorbikes depending on your conditions. After arriving in Soc Trang City, continue along Ton Duc Thang Street and then turn right onto Dang Van Vien Street. Here, visitors need to go through a small alley called Cau Den Hamlet for about 200 more meters to reach the pagoda.

The main hall of the pagoda
Famous alongside Ong Bon Pagoda in Soc Trang and Ba Thien Hau Pagoda in My Xuyen, La Han Pagoda features harmonious architecture with elegant and serene scenery in a vast space. The overall structure of the pagoda consists of two separate floors with four roof systems stacked on top of each other, with each corner of the roof intricately carved with decorative patterns in the traditional artistic style of the Chinese.

The upper floor of the pagoda worships Buddha Shakyamuni, the Eighteen Arhats, the Grand Master Lao Quan, along with other Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. The Buddha statues here are meticulously crafted and carefully arranged, reflecting the solemnity of the place for practice and meditation. The lower area worships the Holy Mother Thien Hau, the God of Literature, and the White-Haired God along with the respectful deities, making anyone who comes here feel the solemn and sacred beauty.

The spacious courtyard of the pagoda has a unique design, with the most impressive images of the dragon, lion, turtle, and phoenix placed next to the artificial Mount Po Da. In front of the yard, there are statues of Phuoc Duc Lao Ong and Avalokiteshvara. Additionally, the courtyard features many natural miniatures that enhance the poetic beauty of the ancient pagoda, such as turtle ponds, lotus ponds, and pavilions. Moreover, decorative items like jade kylin, eight precious lamps, and dragon and phoenix sculptures also contribute to the stunning landscape here.

Especially during the Lantern Festival, the pagoda often holds a lantern procession, treasure tower, and blessing cake festival with the meaning of bringing good fortune to every home, encouraging a diligent working spirit for the year.

On Vu Lan Festival, the pagoda also organizes the distribution of salt and white rice to poor families in the locality. With the spirit and noble gesture, the pagoda regularly allocates funds from charitable offerings to buy rice to help the needy, sponsor houses of affection, houses of love, funds for the poor, educational encouragement funds, and purchase relief goods for those affected by floods. Every year, it also frequently supports funding for the Duc Anh supplementary school on Mac Dinh Chi Street, Soc Trang City, as well as welfare funds for teachers teaching here.
